Hello, Imogen! Can you tell us a little about the show you’re directing?

The name of my show is The Knave of Hearts, a play based on an old proverb, in which a Lady named Violeta must bake a delicious dessert in order to marry the King and become Queen of the land. I chose this show because it seemed super interesting and fun!

What are you looking forward to most about this opportunity?

I’m so excited for the opportunity to direct! I thought it would be a fun experience, and I enjoy the opportunity to participate in all aspects of theatre, including directing. I’m looking forward to seeing how my actors can grow in their roles, and also how I can grow throughout this whole directing process.

This is Encore’s Season of Dreams, what are your goals for this production? How do you hope to achieve them?

My goal for this production is pretty simple actually! I want to put on the best show that I can, and make sure that everyone has a fun time doing it. I believe that theatre should be enjoyable, and will do my best to achieve that goal throughout this show.

How long have you been with Encore Stage & Studio?

I have been with Encore for years, doing summer camps since I was 8 and participating in many shows. Some of them include Brainiac in High School Musical JR., backstage crew for The Best Haunted House Ever and The Wizard of Oz, Queen Furaday in Rapunzel and the Sheep Charlotte’s Web.

What is your favorite aspect of theatre?

As much as I love every single part of theatre, acting itself has a special place in my heart as the thing that truly got me into theatre. Acting gives an opportunity to express yourself on stage, and I always feel proud after a show has gone well!

What advice do you have for future season’s student directors?

Try your best to adapt and be flexible; directing isn’t about ordering people around, it requires cooperation.

Thanks for taking the time to speak with us, Imogen! After this, we have on more director assembling, so check back with us next week to see the final director. And be sure to get your tickets to Student Directed One-Act Plays, running April 17-19 at Theatre On the Run.

Imogen B. She/They is a sophomore at Washington Liberty High School, and this is her ninth Encore show! You may have seen Imogen onstage in High School Musical JR., Rapunzel, Reindeer Games, and several other shows for Encore over the years. She’s very excited to be directing for the first time! In their free time, Imogen can be found reading, writing, and baking.
